I have separated the body and the sleeves for Wicked and I am on the body! Woo-hoo…. I really think that I must be a really slow knitter. I am not able to crank out FO’s with the speed of some people out there (Green Apples). That girl is FAST… Oh, well… I am also job-hunting and spending quality with my son. Also, my hands are sore today. I think that I have knit a bit too much in the last few days. Arthritis? Yes, I do suffer occasionally from that even though I am not yet thirty years old. I have had symptoms of it since I was about ten years old, and it just seems to be getting worse. Don’t think that I will lay off the knitting just because my fingers are a bit achy – aspirin to the RESCUE!

Speaking of the little schmoo – he has become addicted to a new show, the Disney movie Cars. It is really cute and very well done, but truth be told I am not really all  that in to watching it more than once a day. Schmoo could watch it all day long over and over if we let him. We do not, and there is a lot of fussing out of him… I should say whining and tantrum because that is what it turns into if we do not turn it on immediately. I cannot wait for warmer weather so he can go outside and play! I can’t wait to go outside and play as well. I miss taking hikes (or walks). We are all going stir-crazy over here!

The other day I was talking to my friend Kelly (the v. best friend in the world) about slang. See, I have never been one to use it, and I personally think that is sounds uneducated and silly when other people speak with many slang words in the conversation. I have such a diversion to it! Especially when it originates from someone like Paris Hilton… You know the word that I mean. The one that everyone wannabe walked around spouting for months. I couldn’t help rolling my eyes to the ceiling and wishing for them to grow up just a bit.

ps. Is Schmoo slang? I consider a nickname… one that I have used for a VERY long time. Am I a hypocrite?

So, I ripped the Blue Sky Cropped Cardigan, and I don’t think that I will be starting it again anytime soon. I was so very upset by the size and just the way it looked. I am sure it was something that I did. I still want a brown cardigan! So, I am looking for a pattern that uses DK doubled  – I think it might be a long time before I find one that will work and one that I like.

For now I am working on the Wicked Sweater from Zephyr and I am hopeful that everything will turn out alright. I swatched and had to do a bit of math to make it alright with the yarn that I am using  – Cascade 220. Nice basic wool. I love it!

I am playing Ransom on Socktopia! I have to say Momma Monkey is incredible. She has a great imagination, and she makes a great effort hosting this sock knit along. I think she is great! I am still working on the little’s sock, and I hope to have it done in the next couple of days. I should, but Wicked is calling me! I at least want to get the top bit of Wicked done today, then I will work on the little’s sock again.

I think I am coming down with a cold… My head is achy and I keep sneezing. Yuck….

We have a winner

Well, we have someone who was very close! That is good enough for me.

Congratulations Christine! Your guess of 91 grams was very close! I even have the proof – wait let me go take a picture of it on the scale. Email me your address and I will send the stitch markers to you this weekend. (I left you a comment on your blog about this as well) Hey, is there anyone else out there that is anxious to hear her new pod cast? I know I cannot wait! <hint, hint, nudge nudge> hehehe

the scale

While I was doing that I also took a few minutes (okay it was really about twenty) to put the sleeve stitches for the Blue Sky Cardi on some scrap yarn instead of the holders and the switch to a longer set of circulars to try on the darn thing. I had a suspiscion that even though my gauge was right it was going to be too small, and I don’t know why this is!?! I am ripping it out already. Know of any patterns that call for a DK weight yarn? I really want a cardigan! I love them…. Ah, well it was not meant to be….

too small

So, I had such a hard time getting the right gauge with the Blue Sky Cropped Cardigan that I almost tore up the pattern and chucked it in the trash can. Ugh. Finally, I got it! I am almost done with the raglan increases and about to separate for the arms. I am going to try it one after that and hopefully all will be well. We shall see about that though. Ugh and Double Ugh! Oh, and I left the cardi on the needles with a smidge of yarn (it was almost time to get new balls) on the laptop when I left for an interview this morning. When I came back it was in a ratty smelly ball on the floor. Yucko – the kittens (Bailey and Guiness aka the car bomb brothers) played with it. I ended up cutting it and will start the new balls sooner than I expected. I hope that I don’t run out of yarn – that will mean that I have to order more. I don’t know if KP will be able to get me the same lot. I hope it doesn’t come to that. If it does, I might cry.

I started and then promptly ripped out the second of the short and sweet little schmoo sock – that is a long name for a sock, but I like it. I don’t know why but it was seemingly too loose, and I cannot abide loose stitches unless it needs to be loose. So, still just the one sock there. Just for fun I weighed the remaining yarn after the first sock was finished – do you know how much was left out of a 100 gram ball of Bearfoot sock yarn? Guess correctly and I will send you some loverly stitch markers that I made last weekend! End of contest is Friday – I will let you all know who wins on Thursday! This is fun – it is my first contest!!!

First Schmoo Sock

schmoo sock

Here it is the first sock for the February installment of Socktopia! It is for my little schmoo, and I picked the theme of short and sweet – because the socks are short and sweet and so is my little schmoo.

They are knit in Bearfoot Mountain Colors in the Bittersweet Rainbow colorway. I think they are fabulous. Right after I got three pictures he promptly ripped it off his foot and grabbed the camera because he loves to take pictures!

WP problems

I don’t know why but half of the last post was deleted, and I really don’t feel up to re-typing it… so you just get pictures….

Oops Odessa

The other thing that WP deleted… Well, I will re-type that because it makes me happy to think about it.

The little schmoo and I had a great day today. We went for a bit of a walk around the neighborhood, and then as we were walking back I asked him if he would like to ride his tricycle. He was very excited, and jumped the rest of the way home. I got his tricycle out, and he got on. All last year whenever he rode his Radio Flyer tricycle I had to push him all over the neighborhood. Today, when he got on I told him again, “You have to push on the pedals with your feet so the tricycle will go.” He looked up at me with the sweetest little grin on his dimpled face and said, “Okay, poosh iffa feet, mommie.” I smiled, and waited patiently. Then he looked at his feet and off he went. I think the steering will take some more time, but I was so very proud of my little schmoo that I started jumping up and down! When his legs were too tired to push the pedals anymore (there are a lot of little hills) we went and got the bottle of bubbles. We watched bubble float around the street until he decided that he was finally hungry. Then we had lunch and cuddled on the couch until he fell asleep. I love that little one, and I hope for many more day as beautiful as this one was.

In progress

Well, I am knitting some things… These are things that I have had on the needles for quite some time. I will start with the oldest one.

This lovely – the Dream Swatch - I hate to admit it, it has been on the needles since July ‘06. I work a couple of rows, and it goes back in the box of knitting/yarn. I just can’t seem to finish it. I don’t know why… I love the yarn, and the stitch pattern isn’t difficult. I want to finish it by spring because I think that is just the right time to wear a bamboo head wrap, don’t you?

Dream Swatchcheckered scarf

Next up – The checkered scarf – this has only been on the needles since last month. I don’t know if I will finish it or rip it….

Obviously, because I tried to sit down and do some homework and as soon as I was getting somewhere I hear the little schmoo start to cry and wonder what is the matter with him. He comes out of his room not wearing a diaper…. drum roll please… I smell something bad, and there is no diaper on his bottom. I was mortified… especially once I saw what was on his bed. Yes, I should be working on homework, and I will be getting back to that. I did post one discussion, and I have one more to do. Oh, and I need to reply to two posts as well. Yeah, I should definitely get back to that homework.

Just so you don’t think that the little schmoo is all bad and smelly I will leave you with this.

Starting again

So, for various reasons I am starting all over… You may ask why, but there are too many reasons to go into. So, just to update – I finished the Drive Thru sweater last night -

Here it is:
